About StayLocal

StayLocal is a collection of free file converters for everyday tasks: turning iPhone photos into JPG, making images smaller for the web, combining scans into a PDF, or creating a favicon.

Unlike most online converters, StayLocal does not upload your files. All conversions run inside your web browser using modern technologies such as WebAssembly, Web Workers, and the Canvas API. Your files are processed in your device’s memory and are gone when you close the tab.

Photos and documents often contain personal information — faces, locations, ID numbers, contracts. Sending them to a stranger’s server just to change a file format is an unnecessary risk. Processing locally is also faster: there is no upload or download wait.

The site is supported by advertising. Ads never appear inside the converter, and they have no access to your files.

StayLocal is built on excellent open-source projects, including libheif (HEIC decoding), jSquash / Squoosh codecs (AVIF and WebP), PDF.js (PDF rendering), pdf-lib (PDF creation), and JSZip (ZIP archives).
