About JPG and WebP
JPG is the classic photo format, supported everywhere but relatively inefficient by modern standards.
WebP, developed by Google, produces files about 25–35% smaller than JPG at comparable quality and is supported by all current browsers. Serving WebP images improves page speed and Core Web Vitals, which helps both users and search rankings.
Private by design
- Processed on your device — files are never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
Why should I use WebP on my website?
Smaller images load faster, especially on mobile connections. Faster pages improve Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), reduce bandwidth costs, and give visitors a better experience.
Do all browsers support WebP?
Yes. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (14+), and Opera all display WebP. For very old browsers you can keep a JPG fallback using the HTML <picture> element.
What quality setting is best for WebP?
Around 75–85% works well for most photos. The default of 82% balances size and quality; compare results and lower it if you need even smaller files.
Are my images sent to a server?
No. Encoding happens in your browser. If your browser cannot encode WebP natively (older Safari), a small WebAssembly encoder is loaded instead — still entirely on your device.
Will the WebP always be smaller than the JPG?
Almost always at similar quality. If your JPG was already heavily compressed, the gain can be small; lowering the quality slightly usually helps.
