About PNG and ICO
PNG is the usual source format for icons and logos thanks to lossless quality and transparency.
ICO is the Windows icon format and the classic favicon format. A single .ico file can hold several sizes, so the browser tab, bookmarks bar, and Windows shortcuts each pick the sharpest version. Modern ICO files store each size as PNG data internally, keeping transparency and small file size.

Frequently asked questions
Which sizes should a favicon.ico contain?
16×16 for browser tabs, 32×32 for high-density tabs and the Windows taskbar, and 48×48 for Windows site shortcuts. These three are the default here and cover practically every case.
My PNG is not square. What happens?
The image is centred on a transparent square canvas, so it is never stretched or cropped.
How do I add the favicon to my website?
Upload favicon.ico to the root of your site (so it is available at /favicon.ico). Optionally add <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" sizes="any"> to the <head> of your pages.
Do I still need ICO if browsers support PNG and SVG favicons?
It is still recommended. Some browsers, RSS readers, and tools request /favicon.ico directly, and Windows uses ICO for pinned sites and shortcuts.
Is my logo uploaded anywhere?
No. The icon is resized and packed into the ICO file inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
