About HEIC and JPG
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11. It stores photos with the HEVC codec, so files are roughly half the size of an equivalent JPG — but many Windows apps, websites, and older devices still cannot open them.
JPG (JPEG) is the most widely supported image format in the world. Every phone, computer, browser, printer, and photo service can open it, which makes it the safest choice for sharing and uploading.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC?
Apple switched to HEIC to save storage: a HEIC photo takes about half the space of a JPG with similar quality. You can change this in Settings → Camera → Formats → “Most Compatible”, but converting existing photos is often easier.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The HEIC decoder runs as WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your photos are processed in your device’s memory and never sent over the network. After your first conversion you can even go offline and the converter keeps working.
Will converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?
JPG is a lossy format, so a tiny amount of detail is always re-encoded. At the default 90% quality the difference is practically invisible. Choose 100% if you need maximum fidelity, or lower it to get smaller files.
Are live photos, bursts, or multiple images in one HEIC supported?
The converter exports the primary (main) image from each HEIC file — the same picture you see in the Photos app. The motion part of a Live Photo is a separate video file and is not included.
Is there a limit on the number or size of photos?
No. There is no cap on the number of photos or on file size — drop a whole folder of iPhone pictures if you like. Several files are converted in parallel on computers and one at a time on phones, so the page stays responsive. If a photo is larger than your device can hold in memory, it is scaled down automatically and marked in the list.
Does the JPG keep the photo’s orientation?
Yes. The rotation stored in the HEIC file is applied, so portrait shots stay upright in the converted JPG.
