Convert HEIC to PNG

Convert HEIC photos from your iPhone or iPad into PNG files without adding any new compression. PNG is a good fit when you want to edit, retouch, or crop a photo further. The conversion happens entirely in your browser, so your photos stay private.

About HEIC and PNG

HEIC is the default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11. It uses the HEVC codec to keep files about half the size of a comparable JPG, but many Windows apps, websites, and older devices cannot open it.

PNG is a lossless format that every app understands. It stores the decoded pixels exactly, so nothing is lost in the conversion and nothing degrades when you edit and save the image again. The trade-off is file size: photos in PNG are much larger than in HEIC or JPG.

Private by design

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose PNG or JPG for my HEIC photos?

Choose PNG if you plan to edit the photo and want no extra compression along the way. Choose JPG if you simply want to share or upload photos — the files will be several times smaller and look practically the same.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than the HEIC file?

HEIC uses very efficient lossy compression, while PNG stores every pixel without loss. A 2 MB iPhone photo can easily become a 15–25 MB PNG. Scale the photo down with the size option if you need a smaller file.

Is the HEIC to PNG conversion really lossless?

The PNG step adds no loss: it keeps exactly the pixels decoded from the HEIC. The original HEIC was already compressed by the camera, and those details cannot be recovered, but they are not made worse either.

Is photo orientation kept?

Yes. The rotation stored in the HEIC file is applied automatically, so portrait photos stay upright in the PNG.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The HEIC decoder runs as WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your photos are processed in your device’s memory and never sent over the network.
