About JPG and PNG
JPG (JPEG) is a lossy photo format: it discards some detail to keep files small. Each time a JPG is edited and saved again, a little more quality is lost.
PNG is lossless. Converting a JPG to PNG freezes the image exactly as it is, so further edits and saves do not add new compression artifacts. PNG also supports transparency, which you can add later in an image editor.
Private by design
- Processed on your device — files are never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No conversion can restore detail that JPG compression already removed. What PNG does is prevent any further loss: the image stays exactly the same no matter how many times you save it.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
Not automatically. JPG has no transparency information, so the PNG keeps the original background. You can remove the background afterwards in an image editor that supports PNG transparency.
Why is the PNG file larger?
PNG stores pixels losslessly, which takes more space than JPG’s lossy compression — often 3–10 times more for photos. That is expected and is the price of a lossless copy.
Is this converter private?
Yes. Images are processed by your browser on your own device. No file is uploaded, logged, or stored.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. The converter works in modern mobile browsers, including Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. On phones files are processed one at a time and each result is saved to the browser’s private storage straight away, so even long batches don’t run out of memory.
