Reduce a photo to 50 KB
Some government, visa and job portals cap photos and signature scans at 50 KB. This tool shrinks your image until it is 50 KB or smaller while keeping as much quality as possible — directly in your browser, without uploading anything.

How to reduce a photo to 50 KB
- 1
Add your photo or scan by dropping it here, pasting it, or clicking “Choose files”.
- 2
The target is already set to 50 KB. Adjust it if your portal states another limit.
- 3
Download the resulting JPG and attach it to your application.
Fitting a photo into 50 KB
50 KB is a tight budget: a full-resolution phone photo is around 50–100 times bigger. To get there, the JPG quality is lowered first, and if that is not enough the image is scaled down, which also matches the small pixel sizes these portals usually display.
The tool tries several quality levels and keeps the best one that is within the limit, then saves a standard JPG that every portal accepts. Plain backgrounds, like those in ID photos and signature scans, compress especially well.
Private by design
- Processed on your device — files are never uploaded.
- Works offline once the page has loaded.
- No limits on file count or size beyond what your device can handle.
Frequently asked questions
Will the file definitely be 50 KB or smaller?
Yes. The tool never returns an attempt that is over the target. 50 KB here is at most 51,200 bytes, and usually a little less.
Does it work for scanned signatures?
Yes. Signatures on a white background compress very well and normally keep their full size. If your scan is a PNG with transparency, it is placed on white.
The portal also requires exact pixel dimensions. What should I do?
Resize the image to the required width and height with the image resizer first, then reduce it to 50 KB here.
Why does the result look softer than the original?
Fitting a detailed photo into 50 KB needs strong compression and sometimes smaller dimensions. Cropping away unnecessary background before compressing leaves more of the budget for the face or signature.
Is my document photo sent to a server?
No. Everything happens in your browser. The image is never uploaded or stored anywhere.
